The Scurry County Historical Commission has worked to preserve local history since its beginning in 1963. Shortly before that time, the State of Texas had begun a program for Recording, Appreciation, Marking, Preserving and Surveying (RAMPS) and local groups were appointed by the county judge of each county to begin work on preserving each county's history.

The Scurry County Commission has been responsible for placing 67 Official Texas Historical Markers in the county. The Commission has received numerous Distinguished Service Awards from the Texas Historical Commission.

In 1973, the Commission published a county history book titled From Buffalo to Oil. Hardback books are $30.00 plus $3.00 postage/handling. Softback books are $15.00 plus $3.00 postage/handling.

The Commission published a book titled Historical Markers in Scurry County. The cost of the book is $5.00 plus $2.00 postage/handling.

The Commission published a book titled Snyder Showplaces in 2006. This book has articles and pictures of 15 historic homes in Snyder, an article about the Manhattan Hotel and entertainment including movie houses in Snyder. It sells for $18.00 plus $3.00 postage/handling.

Also for sale is the book 18 Ranch, Colorado Cattle Company 1881-1973 by Sidney W. Bryan. Hardback. Cost is $20.00 plus $3.00 postage/handling.
